dataimport handler - aborting an import doesn't break JDBC connection to DB

Aborting a dataimport that connects to a MySQL database doesn't break the connection to the database server. I don't know if this is a general JDBC problem or unique to the MySQL driver. It is the 5.1.22 version, newest when this issue was filed.
