Define and enforce proper contract for BytesInputCompressor/Decompressor

    Description

      The proper contract of BytesInputCompressor/Decompressor is not defined. It is not clear how the indices of the related ByteBuffer instances should behave. Furthermore, they behave differently for the different implementations.
