CoordinatorJob returns null for getConf()

I submitted a coordinator job using the OozieClient to createConfiguration() and provided all necessary properties. The coordinator runs properly and passes along the properties needed by its subordinate workflow. However, when using OozieClient CoordinatorJob.getConf() I always get null returned.
