Compile/Build hangs on "Initializing view, please wait..."

    • Linux Mint 19, three monitors, 16G RAM etc. When using Netbeans 9 on the same system this problem does not occur.

    Description

      Open project created under Netbeans 9. Try Run or Build or Debug and get "Initializing view, please wait...". Open Project->Properties->Run and try to select Application Class. Same result in the EditText box: "Initializing view, please wait...".

      Tried various suggestions such as refactoring, importing, different project etc. - no joy
