jdk 8 and other pom and code changes

use jdk 8 instead jdk 7.
for jdk 7, public updates stopped as of april 2015.
also, concurrency, multithreading seems core to the gossip and both these are better in jdk 8.
other apache projects, started to have a jdk8 git branches.
