Spark-Core Inbox Message Lost

In Inbox.scala source code, line 158

message = messages.poll()

This line of code will retrieve and remove the first message if there is any. When it is not null, this message will get lost and never be executed.

Am I missing any important knowledge? Hope anyone help to clarify this.
